Presentation of findings from the cultivation of edible flowers in a plant factory at an academic conference
The artificial light plant factory at the Field Science Education and Research Center has been engaged in edible flower cultivation for two years at the suggestion of momohana Hyakka (Representative Kyoko Uehara), an edible flower grower in Shobara. The Koumura Lab. and Tanigaki Lab. have been working together on the cultivation of cosmos and dianthus (nadeshiko), and the results were presented in a poster presentation at the Horticultural Society of Japan (University of the Ryukyus). For cosmos, we selected dwarf varieties and varieties that bloom at shorter lengths, and for dianthus, depending on the variety, it is almost possible to make it bloom under current growing conditions and at the height of the growing rack. The colors were eye-catching, and many questions and answers were exchanged, indicating a high level of interest in this field. (November 4, 2024)
