From research and cultivation of edible flowers to first product shipment

Following a proposal by momohana Hyakka (represented by Kyoko Uehara), the Koumura and Tanigaki laboratories have been collaborating in the cultivation of edible flowers for the past two years. The results of this research were presented at an academic conference, and now that stable flowering has been achieved in the plant factory, the flowers are being shipped as a product for the first time.

Third- and fourth-year students involved in the Tanigaki Lab’s research on edible flowers participated in the shipping process, harvesting and packing the flowers along with baby leaves grown at the plant. This time, a combination of yellow calendula and viola and red and white dianthus were developed and shipped to JA Zen-Noh Torette Genki Ichiba (Hiroshima Store).

Through this research, we will continue to explore the possibilities of stable production and local distribution of edible flowers, and will continue to engage in practical research in the future.
