Research Themes
Research on the effects of environmental stress response on yield and quality and dormancy control in long-harvesting and winter-harvesting accelerated cultivation of asparagus; research on various environmental stress responses in long-harvesting summer and fall cultivation of tomatoes and strawberries; and research on cultivation physiology and cultivation methods related to other local specialty crops and medicinal herbs.
Research Content
We are conducting research on vegetable cultivation with the aim of revitalizing agriculture in the mountainous areas of the prefecture’s agriculture, forestry, and fisheries industry and improving productivity through the implementation of smart agriculture.
In particular, we are investigating and analyzing problems in the cultivation of local specialty vegetables and medicinal herbs in the cool central and northern regions, such as asparagus, tomatoes, and strawberries, and working to improve cultivation techniques and quality through the elucidation of physiological ecology.
Research to be pursued in the future
Currently, we are also conducting research on plant factories and hydroponics.
Crops respond to various stresses from the growing environment by altering yield and quality components.
Based on these findings, we intend to conduct research on both cultivation and quality in order to regulate the growing environment and sustainably grow safe, tasty, unique, and highly functional vegetables.
Research to be conducted in collaboration with community and society
Research on expanding the cropping seasons and cultivation areas of local specialty crops.
Cultivation research that is sustainable and utilizes local resources.
Plant factories (artificial light, sunlight), hydroponics, and hydroponic cultivation.
